If you are an Arizona sportsman, today is an important day for you.

You see, this is the last day you can apply for 2019 antelope and elk tags.

Online applications for both species will be accepted until 11:59 p.m.

This year, Arizona Game and Fish Department will issue 422 general tags for antelope, 69 for muzzleloader, and 253 for archery.

For elk, there are 14,644 general bull and antlerless tags, 1,978 youth tags, 1,470 Limited Opportunity tags, 70 CHAMP tags, 5,728 archery tags, and 1,330 muzzleloader tags.

There are also 55 limited opportunity HAM (Handgun, Archery, Muzzleloader) elk tags, and 150 archery only limited opportunity tags.

For those that like to chase a very low elk opportunity, there are 750 Kaibab Minimal Occurrence tags available.

All sportsmen must have a valid Arizona hunting license when applying for a big game tag. Resident hunting licenses are $37, while resident combination hunting and fishing licenses are $57. Youth combination licenses are just $5, which is the best bang for your buck for all young sportsmen!

Antelope permits are $103 for antelope tags. Elk tags are $148 for adults, while youth-only elk tags are $63.

For those that want to put in for bonus points only, the cost is $13.

The department notes that one of the benefits of applying online is sportsmen can opt to purchase Point Guard.

Point Guard provides sportsmen with the option of surrendering a hunt permit-tag for any reason without losing their accumulated bonus points. The only requirement to purchase Point Guard is that sportsmen must have a departmental portal account, and pay a $5 fee at the time of application.

To set up a portal account go to the department home page at www.azgfd.gov, then select the

“My Account” option, which is listed at the upper right-hand corner. Select the “Register” option and fill in the required information.

Portal accounts are also smartphone friendly, so customers have mobile access to their information.

By setting up a portal account, sportsmen can manage and view their draw applications, license history, and bonus points. Draw results are also posted early for those with a portal account.

If you have any questions about the application process, call the Region 3 office at 928-692-7700 or the Phoenix office at 602-942-3000.
